T, TH Daily Schedule

8:45 - 8:55 GREETING: Parents are invited to sign the attendance notebook, then help their child put away outerwear and belongings in their cubby and greet the teachers. You may use this opportunity to share any information with teachers about changes in normal routine, the child's mood, etc. We welcome parents to settle your child into an activity in Room 2 (Middle Room) or Room 3 (Monet Room). Children should decide what to play with first from several activities offered each day. Teachers and parents help by encouraging the child to explore the room, see what is different, and what special activities are being offered in addition to the regular available ones. Sometimes suggesting a favorite activity helps to ease the transition.
8:55 - 9:55

ACTIVITY / WORK TIMEChoices during the activity time may be made from any or all of the following activities: STORY TIME, SAND TABLE, WATER TABLE, EASELS, BLOCK CENTER, ART CENTER, HOUSEKEEPING CENTER, SCIENCE/DISCOVERY CENTER, TABLE TOYS, WRITING CENTER, BOOK CORNER, MATH CENTER and when available CARPENTRY BENCH, LARGE MUSCLE ACTIVE PLAY, AND COOKING ACTIVITIES. These activities are available on a daily basis. We vary props and materials within the areas regularly to support the program goals and to stimulate continued interest.

9:55 - 10:10 CLEAN-UP TIME: A time is chosen that is a natural breaking point in the children's play. We sing our clean-up song together . . . Time to clean up now, time to clean up now, and put away our toys. Children help by putting away the toys, sweeping the floor, wiping tables, washing brushes, etc. When the cleaning is finished the group proceeds to the Monkey Room.
10:10 - 10:20 CIRCLE TIME: We gather in a circle on the rug in the Monkey Room. Part of the time is used to further reflect on the day's activities: we share stories of our day, and focus the children's thoughts on goals that activities were set up to achieve. We often discuss our ideas and feelings about other relevant things. The remainder of circle time is used for music and movement activities.
10:20 - 10:30 SNACK TIME: At this time the class is divided into two rooms for snack, meeting in Room 1 or Room 3 with their small group teacher. The snack groups remain consistent for the year. Snack time is an important time for conversation. The ideas that emerge when children are relaxed and enjoying their food are wonderful expressions of their thoughts. It is time when children can share ideas with the group for future activities, perhaps extending today's activities into the next day's plan, or elaborating on it.
10:30 - 10:40 STORY TIME: This time may be used for a story, or fingerplays, nursery rhymes, and flannel board activities. Other language art activities may be developed as well.
10:40 - 10:45 TRANSITION: Prepare for outdoor play. Children get dressed appropriately for the weather. Teachers encourage self help skills. Children are encouraged to "show us" when they are ready to go out by sitting by the hallway wall near the west exit.
10:45 - 11:15 OUTDOOR PLAY: Our playground provides for choices of swings, slides, ladders, rope ladder, ropes, climbing deck, campsite, straw bales, sandbox, as well as a bridge over a small stream and woods for observing and exploring.
11:15 DISMISSAL: Parents are asked to come out to the playground to pick up their children. Parents find it useful to come a few minutes early to check the Parent Information Board, the Log Book, and cubbies. Teachers and parents use this time to communicate any special events or concerns about the child's day at school or progress in general. When weather prohibits outdoor play, children are dismissed from their small groups, in the Monkey Room and the Monet Room. Please sign out before you leave.

GREETING CIRCLE and PLANNING: We begin with the song . . We've been waiting for you . . .  Parents say their goodbyes. Afterwards, teachers set the tone for the day. This usually involves describing the special activities that are being offered in addition to the regular available ones. Part of the time may be used to share what children did on previous days, discussing the children's thoughts on the goals the activities were setup to achieve, and discussing our ideas about these things. Planning engages the teachers in creating an excitement for the day - encouraging children to explore the classroom and to discover what is different. Teachers also may suggest much loved activities for more reticent children that will ease them into their routine. Children are expected to be increasingly independent in their choices reflecting their own unique interests, ideas and creativity.
