Supporting Emerson School for Preschoolers
Dear Friends of Emerson,
This year, Emerson Preschool celebrates 60 years — a milestone made possible because of friends like you. On September 6, 1966, a group of Concord-area mothers opened the doors to The Ralph Waldo Emerson School for Preschoolers, determined to create the best early learning environment for their children. Generations of families have carried that vision forward. Thank you for being part of this legacy!
My own Emerson journey began as a mom. The love and dedication of Emerson’s teachers, along with the school’s welcoming environment, inspired me to volunteer on the Board of Directors. Later, I had the joy of joining as a teacher, and today I am honored to serve as director. This past summer, I traveled to Reggio Emilia, Italy — the birthplace of the philosophy that inspires Emerson — and returned even more committed to giving Emerson my very best.
Like Emerson, the Reggio Emilia schools were founded by mothers who wanted more for their children. After World War II, they rebuilt schools around two simple but profound goals: creating joyful, safe spaces for children and honoring education as a human right for children, parents, and teachers. Their vision continues to inspire Emerson’s approach today.
Children form lasting memories here. Recently, an 11-year-old alum walked through our doors and exclaimed, “It still smells like maple syrup and acorns!” My own son, now in 4th grade, often says, “I wish I could go back to Emerson.” These early experiences shape how we learn, play, and connect as a community — and Emerson is where so many of those memories begin.
In our 60th year, we invite you to help Emerson thrive with a special gift of $60 for 60 years (or any amount meaningful to you). Thanks to the generosity of an alumni family, the first $1,000 in gifts will be matched — doubling your impact!
Across our state, childcare centers are closing, and families are struggling to find quality care. At Emerson, applications for tuition assistance are at an all-time high. With your support, we can keep tuition steady, expand programming, retain highly-skilled teachers, and strengthen the foundation that has made Emerson a cherished part of our community for six decades. As one recent parent put it, “Who wouldn’t want to spend more time with Emerson teachers!”
Thank you for being part of Emerson’s story. Together, we can ensure that generations of children continue to learn, grow, and thrive here. We can’t wait to celebrate this milestone birthday with you.
Warmly,
Christina Oliva, MS
